Prep: 10 minutes
Cook: 15 minutes
Serves: 4

Ingredients

  • 1 block extra-firm tofu ((14 oz))
  • 2 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 0.5 cup sesame seeds
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.25 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 3 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
  • 1 green onion (thinly sliced)

Instructions

  1. Drain tofu and wrap in paper towels. Place a heavy object on top and let sit for 10 minutes to press out excess water.
  2. While tofu is pressing, mix soy sauce, maple syrup, and rice vinegar in a small bowl to make the dipping sauce. Set aside.
  3. Cut tofu into 1/2-inch thick slices or triangles.
  4. In a shallow dish, combine sesame seeds, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  5. Lightly dust each piece of tofu with cornstarch, then press into the sesame seed mixture, coating all sides.
  6. Heat vegetable oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat.
  7. Add the coated tofu to the hot pan and cook for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
  8. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  9. Serve immediately with the dipping sauce and garnish with sliced green onions.

Notes

For extra flavor, add 1/2 teaspoon of sesame oil to the dipping sauce. Make sure to press the tofu well to remove excess moisture - this ensures a crispier crust.
