Prep: 10 minutes
Cook: 15 minutes
Serves: 4
Ingredients
- 1 block extra-firm tofu ((14 oz))
- 2 tablespoon cornstarch
- 0.5 cup sesame seeds
- 0.25 teaspoon salt
- 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
- 0.25 teaspoon garlic powder
- 3 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 2 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
- 1 green onion (thinly sliced)
Instructions
- Drain tofu and wrap in paper towels. Place a heavy object on top and let sit for 10 minutes to press out excess water.
- While tofu is pressing, mix soy sauce, maple syrup, and rice vinegar in a small bowl to make the dipping sauce. Set aside.
- Cut tofu into 1/2-inch thick slices or triangles.
- In a shallow dish, combine sesame seeds, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
- Lightly dust each piece of tofu with cornstarch, then press into the sesame seed mixture, coating all sides.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the coated tofu to the hot pan and cook for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
- Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Serve immediately with the dipping sauce and garnish with sliced green onions.
Notes
For extra flavor, add 1/2 teaspoon of sesame oil to the dipping sauce. Make sure to press the tofu well to remove excess moisture - this ensures a crispier crust.
